DUTY OF CANDOUR - PLEASE ASK YOUR MP TO SIGN EDM NO 1163

Tom Brake, MP has tabled this EDM calling for a statutory Duty of Candour with patients/families over incidents that cause harm in healthcare.  Please urge your MP and any others you know to sign this EDM.  As you know, no such duty currently exists and, to make matters worse, the new registration regulations for the Care Quality Commission make it a statutory duty for healthcare organisations to report such incidents (anonymously) to the National Patient Safety Agency, whilst explicitly omitting any corresponding duty to be open and honest with patients!  Ministers have promised to review this bizarre situation, and so a large number of signatories to this EDM can really make a difference.

Please find the link below to the K&C LINk application for a ‘Bright Ideas Grant.’

http://big.dh.gov.uk/node/248

Background:

We are hoping to secure £2,750.00 in additional funding to support our ‘dignity champions’ programme.  This training and awareness raising programme will benefit all our sub-groups – disability, mental health, older people and cancer.  We also hope to use the funding to target some of the ‘easy to ignore’ groups in the borough including people experiencing domestic violence, homeless people and ex-offenders.

The success of our application depends purely on us being one of the top scoring ideas on the site on Thursday.  Voting closes at 12pm this Thursday, March 18th.  We reckon that based on current voting we need approx 200 votes at five stars to secure the funding.

How to vote:

1) Please click on http://big.dh.gov.uk/node/248 or copy and paste this address in to your web browser

2) Anyone & everyone can vote by scrolling to the bottom of this page and under ‘Add your rating’ please click on the appropriate rating twice e.g. five stars if you think this is an excellent idea. (hopefully you do as you all helped to design it)  Please note that you may need to click the star twice so that it reads e.g. ‘you rated this idea 5 star’ under the stars.  This is confirmation that your vote has worked.

There is no need to register/log-in unless you want to leave a supportive comment.

All support would be very much appreciated.  Three clicks of a mouse can really make a difference to this project and to the ability of LINk members to shape the services we receive!

Feel free to re-post this web address on your Facebook, Twitter pages etc.
