Age Equality in K&C
The event was fully booked two weeks in advance, with 106 people in attendance. Local older people provided their views on the Bill and the proposed response of health and social care services locally.
Attendees very much welcomed the provisions of the Bill and feel it should be implemented for all sectors as soon as possible and no later than 2012. Any exceptions to the Bill should be kept to a minimum and should be objectively justified. Attendees were clear that legislation will only achieve its desired impact if the GEO and DH rolls-out an effective support package to ensure real implementation at the operational level. Local people and service users should, and are seeking to, be involved in further accessible engagement with local health and social care services. Numerous members wish to be involved in the monitoring and reporting of provisions to ensure an end to age discrimination in K&C.If you would like to support the LINk fulfill this role, contact us now on

New Service User Board for People First

The Council is setting up a new forum for people who use adult social care services, as part of the People First (or Personalisation) Programme.
As you may know, People First is bringing about big changes to the way the Council arrange and pay for the support services people need. Instead of the Council organising services on customers' behalf, they are now giving people a personal budget to make their own arrangements. It's all about offering more freedom of choice and more control. But if people prefer to keep the same services as before, they are free to do so.
To make sure the new system works well, the Council need to involve people who use their services in thinking about the changes and ask them what would work best and what needs to improve. One way RBKC can do this is by linking with existing user groups in the borough, including K&C LINk. A second way will be through their new Service User Board for People First.
K&C LINk would now like to invite LINk members to act as authorised representatives on the Service User Board and hope you will be interested in participating. The first meeting of the Board will be on March 29th at 11.30am. Meetings of the Service User Board will then be held 6-8 weekly at Kensington Town Hall.
If you would like to represent K&C LINk on this new Board, please contact Paula in the K&C LINk office on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. NEW: K&C LINk Reading Group
K&C LINk Reading Group - members wanted!
The K&C is setting up a ‘reading group’ and would welcome all residents and workers from the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea to join us. The aim of this group is to allow local people to work in a supportive environment to ensure that selected Social Care information from the council is clear and easy to understand for the average Joe/Josephine.
The next meeting will be on March 15th from 12.30-2pm in Kensington Town Hall. Lunch will be provided! Anyone interested in joining should contact K&C LINk staff on 020 8968 7049 or by email at
