Putting People First
The Department of Health states ‘Putting People First’ is a set of proposals to work towards a single community-based support system focused on the health and wellbeing of local populations, including health care, housing, employment, benefits advice and education/training. It is also an umbrella for initiatives to promote integration.’ (http://www.dhcarenetworks.org.uk) The four underpinning principles of this transformation agenda are ‘early intervention and prevention,’ ‘choice & control,’ ‘social capital,’ and ‘universal services.’ But despite this person-centred agenda, where people should be able to choose and control the support they need in their lives, many members of the K&C LINk remain unclear as to what this really means. What will happen in practice? How many people have taken part in the pilot? What are their experiences? What are the outcomes from the pilot? How is it working in other boroughs?
Leave us a comment now based on your experiences or attend our ‘Personal Budgets Surgery’ event with the Council on November 26th, at 11.30am in Essex Unitarian Church, W8 4RT.
