As LINks, we know that a lot of the ongoing election promises about local accountability are still a long way from delivering meaningful and public involvement in health.  Quality Accounts provided an opportunity to involve patients and the public from the start and to really make a public commitment to engagement.

Recent research from the Kings Fund 'Accounting for quality to the local community,'  highlighted the need for the NHS Trust to produce Quality Accounts that overcame three challenges:

1) Involvement - real, meaningful and timely

2) Trust - through involvement, honest reporting and responding to concerns

3) Presentation - readable, clear and suitable for the target audience.

Dont know about how things are working out with the Trusts in your borough but in K&C we really have had mixed experiences.  One Trust has involved us since January whereas another sent us their QA without any background or involvement and requested a response within a week!

I cant help feeling the target audience (us!) for these QA's was completely forgotten about!
